This event is co-hosted with Dartmouth College and the Korea Foundation. As the first Korean Art Week held overseas, the program includes an international symposium on Korean contemporary art, a curator workshop, and a lecture on the artistic world of artist Park Daesung, whose works are currently exhibited at the Hood Museum of Art and Harvard Art Museums.
On November 3, as part of the lecture series at Dartmouth College’s Hood Museum of Art titled ‘The Dr. Allen W. Root Contemporary Art Distinguished Lectureship,’ MMCA Director Yoon Bum-mo will give a lecture on the artistic world of Korean painter Park Daesung.
Following this, on November 4, an international symposium on Korean contemporary art since the 1980s will be held, featuring presentations and discussions by Korean art researchers from both domestic and international institutions. The symposium, composed of three sessions, will include presentations and discussions by nine researchers such as Park Soyang (Ontario College of Art and Design University), Kim Mina (University of Alabama), and Kim Ji-hye (University of Arizona), covering various topics in Korean art including new trends and contemporaneity since the 1980s, minjung art, Nam June Paik and video art, feminism, and contemporary design.
On November 5 and 6, a Korean art curator workshop will take place. Approximately 50 Korean art curators and researchers active at 24 major overseas art museums, along with junior researchers aspiring to study Korean art, will attend to share information on Korean art institutions’ operations and collection status, and explore possibilities for future collaboration. Through mentoring sessions involving senior curators, Korean art specialists, and emerging researchers, the workshop aims to foster the next generation of art professionals.
