Daegu City Sets Up Joint Memorial Altar for Itaewon Accident Victims... 15 Ongoing Festivals Canceled or Reduced
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Daegu City has decided to set up a joint memorial altar to foster a mourning atmosphere and cancel or scale down various ongoing festivals to prevent incidents similar to the Itaewon accident.
Starting from the 31st, Daegu City installed a joint memorial altar at the Ahn Byung-geun Judo Memorial Hall in Duryu Park, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, and plans to strengthen the management of public officials' duties until the national mourning period ends on November 5th.
Daegu City also decided that public institutions will either fully cancel or scale down various local festivals currently underway, and for private events that are unavoidably held during the national mourning period, special safety inspections will be conducted.
Additionally, the club alley in Dongseong-ro, downtown Daegu, where large crowds are expected, will be subject to nighttime inspections by a joint inspection team composed of the city, district, and police. Police officers and public officials will be intensively deployed in densely populated areas where accidents are likely to occur to thoroughly prevent safety incidents.
Daegu City announced, "The Nam-gu Halloween festival, which has been ongoing for two days, will be canceled, and 15 events including the Jinbatgol Autumn Festival in Suseong-gu will be postponed or scaled down during the national mourning period."
It is currently unknown how many Daegu citizens were among the casualties of the Itaewon accident.
