Professor Yoo Ji-beom Appointed as New President of Sungkyunkwan University
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The school corporation Sungkyunkwan University held a board meeting on the 27th and announced on the 28th that Professor Yoo Ji-beom of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has been appointed as the 22nd president of Sungkyunkwan University.
The new president Yoo, aged 63 this year, graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1982, earned a master's degree from the same university, and received a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University in the United States. Afterwards, he worked as a senior researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Korea, joined Sungkyunkwan University in 1994, and served as the head of the Center for Engineering Education Innovation, deputy director of the Sungkyun Nano Science and Technology Institute, dean of the College of Engineering, and vice president of the Natural Science Campus as well as director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.
Since January this year, he has been seconded to the National Research Foundation of Korea, serving as the head of the National Research Headquarters. The school stated, "President Yoo was unanimously appointed by the board as the right person to demonstrate strong leadership, new changes, and innovation based on his diverse experiences inside and outside the university accumulated so far," the school said.

The term of office is four years, from January 1 next year to December 31, 2026.
