Jeju Coast Guard Conducts Training to Strengthen Marine Autonomous Defense Team's Response Capabilities
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] On the 28th, the Jeju Maritime Police conducted training at the Guyeom Fishing Village Office for 11 members of the Marine Autonomous Defense Corps to strengthen the response capabilities for marine pollution in vulnerable areas within the jurisdiction, focusing on a fisherman-centered autonomous defense organization.
The Marine Autonomous Defense Corps is a civilian volunteer group formed by local fishermen to voluntarily carry out defense duties in the event of marine pollution accidents. Currently, in the Jeju waters, a total of 17 Marine Autonomous Defense Corps units operate with 177 personnel and 47 vessels.
The training included introducing major accident response cases of the Marine Autonomous Defense Corps and instructions on the use of marine pollution defense equipment to improve initial response capabilities to marine pollution accidents.
In particular, methods for handling the fire accident in Hallim and the defense operations for stranded vessels near Biyangdo and Chagwido were also shared.
On the 31st, training is scheduled to be held at around 2 p.m. at the Hamdeok Fishing Village Office in Jeju City for 5 members of the Marine Autonomous Defense Corps.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “We will continue to conduct education and training to enhance the expertise of the Marine Autonomous Defense Corps in defense operations, further strengthening the response capabilities to pollution accidents in the jurisdictional waters, and work together with the public and private sectors to create a clean sea.”
