Through this agreement, each company will mutually cooperate to establish an eco-friendly set-top box production system and expand the application of eco-friendly materials to communication-related terminal devices such as modems.
KT plans to complete a virtuous cycle process by extracting eco-friendly raw materials through LG Chem's recycling process from approximately 300 tons of plastic waste generated annually from set-top boxes and other devices within the KT Group, and reproducing and spreading eco-friendly devices together with its partners.
KT will first produce about 10,000 eco-friendly set-top boxes among the Genie TV set-top box A units scheduled for production this year. In addition, from next year, production will be significantly expanded to supply about 5 million eco-friendly terminal devices annually, with plans to apply more than 20 million units by 2027.
