Lee Bok-hyun, Financial Supervisory Service Chief: "Digital Talent in Finance Sector is Crucial... Will Actively Support"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] On the 27th, Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, attended the launch ceremony of the digital talent development project "Hana Digital Power On," hosted by Hana Financial Group. Governor Lee emphasized the importance of nurturing digital talent and encouraged the participating youth.
The event took place at the "Hana Global Campus" in Cheongna-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon. Attendees at the launch ceremony included Ham Young-joo, Chairman of Hana Financial Group; Ham Ki-ho, AWS Korea CEO; Lee Ji-eun, Microsoft Korea CEO; Yeo Ji-young, Vice President of SK Telecom; and about 100 young participants.
Hana Digital Power On is a project that annually selects about 30 young people from low-income backgrounds and provides expert training in collaboration with global IT companies (Google, MS, Amazon, etc.). The goal is to cultivate digital talent equipped with IT capabilities such as artificial intelligence (AI), information security, and big data, and to support employment opportunities in the financial sector. Participating students receive tuition and research funding, enabling them to benefit from education linked to financial practice.
Governor Lee highlighted the importance of nurturing digital talent to appropriately respond to changes in the financial sector caused by the acceleration of digital technology adoption and the expansion of platform businesses. He particularly emphasized the significance of private sector voluntary efforts alongside government policies for digital talent development, as well as the consideration given to low-income youth.
Governor Lee stated, “The Financial Supervisory Service will actively support the smooth progress of this project through various means.”
