View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lotte Mart announced on the 26th that it has signed a business agreement for the ‘High-Quality Recyclable Materials Collection and Reward Project’ involving 18 organizations, including the Ministry of Environment.
This business agreement involves a total of 18 diverse organizations: six private companies, two government agencies including the Ministry of Environment, eight local governments including Incheon Metropolitan City, and two private organizations. The High-Quality Recyclable Materials Collection and Reward Project primarily provides incentives such as local currency or carbon neutrality points to citizens who dispose of recyclable materials that have undergone high-quality processing (such as washing and removal of packaging) to improve the quality of collected recyclables.
Each organization will carry out tasks such as establishing and supporting collection points for recyclables, providing education and guidance on proper separation of items by category, and conducting campaigns to promote separation practices. Through this, the plan is to recycle 100% of the recyclables collected at collection points to prevent waste generation and to establish a stable recovery and recycling infrastructure for waste resources. Lotte Mart will set up recyclable material collection points at representative stores in each region and will be responsible for promotional activities targeting customers visiting the stores.
Since June, Lotte Mart has been operating the ‘Junggu Re-Shop,’ a recyclable materials reward store, in collaboration with Jung-gu, Incheon City, at its Yeongjongdo branch. This store is one of the pilot projects under this agreement, where residents who bring cleanly washed recyclables such as PET bottles and milk cartons are rewarded with local currency according to a predetermined amount.
