View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] As signs of a COVID-19 resurgence are emerging, the number of new daily confirmed cases has remained in the 40,000 range for two consecutive days.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 26th, as of midnight, the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases increased by 40,842, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 25,396,155.
Although this is 2,917 fewer than the previous day's new cases (43,759), the count has stayed in the 40,000 range for two days in a row. Compared to one week ago on the 19th (29,492 cases) and two weeks ago on the 12th (30,517 cases), the numbers are higher by 11,350 and 10,325 cases respectively.
The daily new confirmed cases have been recorded as follows since the 20th: 25,376 → 24,738 → 26,898 → 26,254 → 14,302 → 43,759 → 40,842. For six consecutive days, the number has increased compared to the previous week, leading to assessments that a winter resurgence is imminent.
Among the new confirmed cases on this day, 81 were imported cases, 10 more than the previous day (71). Domestic community transmission cases, excluding imported cases, numbered 40,761.
The number of critically ill patients hospitalized is 242, 17 more than the previous day (225). The critical care bed occupancy rate was 22.5% (353 out of 1,572 beds in use) as of 5 p.m. the previous day.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 on the previous day was 26, 9 more than the day before (17). Among the deceased, half (13) were aged 80 or older, with 9 in their 70s, 2 in their 60s, and 1 each in their 50s and 40s. The cumulative death toll stands at 29,043, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
