Uiryeong-gun announced on the 26th that on the 25th at 2 p.m., seven ambassadors from around the world, including Ekaterini Loupas, the Greek Ambassador to Korea, along with Kwon Tae-shin, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, and nine other officials, visited the birthplace of Hoam Lee Byung-chul.
The delegation first visited the birthplace of Lee Byung-chul, the founder who built Samsung, a world-leading company, to learn about Korean entrepreneurship. In particular, the visit was especially meaningful as the Federation of Korean Industries, which planned this visit, is a private economic organization established by Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung Group, gathering major domestic companies.
Mayor Oh Tae-wan said in his welcoming speech, “Hoam’s indomitable entrepreneurial spirit and business mindset are the greatest pride of the people of Uiryeong,” adding, “As Chairman Lee said, ‘The habit of valuing connections attracts people,’ so today’s meeting is very welcome.”
Vice Chairman Jeon responded, “It is an honor to come to the wealthy village of Uiryeong, the birthplace of Lee Byung-chul. I am especially pleased to introduce the roots of a representative Korean company while hosting ambassadors from various countries.”
Mohamed Bensabri, the Algerian Ambassador to Korea, wrote in the guestbook, “The Hoam Lee Byung-chul family not only changed the Republic of Korea but also greatly contributed to better global development. Today’s visit is very moving.”
During the meeting, Mayor Oh drew attention by volunteering as the promotional ambassador for the ‘Rich Rich Festival,’ a wealthy festival in Uiryeong to be held on the 28th, enthusiastically promoting the event.
Mayor Oh shared interesting old stories that piqued the curiosity of attendees, such as the benevolent act of the late Chairman Lee Byung-chul’s family, who always kept a well open for anyone in the village to use during times when water was scarce, and the ‘Sotbawi Legend,’ which foretold the birth of three generations of wealthy families.
