Korea Island Promotion Agency Accelerates 'Sustainable Island Policy and Promotion'
Gyeongnam Province and Tongyeong City Sign Tripartite Agreement
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Korea Island Promotion Agency announced on the 25th that it has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gyeongnam Province and Tongyeong City to cooperate on sustainable island policies and promote island regions.
In order to realize the "Local Era Where Anywhere in the Republic of Korea is a Good Place to Live," the Korea Island Promotion Agency has been sequentially signing MOUs with local governments nationwide, and this agreement is the third following Gyeongbuk Province and Ulleung County in September.
The signing ceremony held at the Tongyeong Restart Platform was attended by Director Oh Dongho, Choi Manrim, Deputy Governor of Gyeongnam Province, Tongyeong Mayor Cheon Younggi, and other officials.
This agreement was prepared to rediscover the value of local islands and improve the quality of life for island residents.
In particular, based on the capabilities of the three institutions, they promised to maintain a close cooperative system and strive to jointly promote education, consulting, publicity, and island tourism revitalization projects for the development of island regions.
The main agreement items include ▲support for policy development to improve the welfare and quality of life of island residents ▲support for sustainable island tourism revitalization ▲support for education, consulting, and publicity for island region promotion.
Along with the agreement, the "Hanseomwon Academy" Tongyeong Campus will be operated for three days from the 26th to the 28th. Through prior consultation and discussion, the academy will be held for the first time in a location other than Samhakdo in Mokpo, where the Korea Island Promotion Agency is based.
The "Hanseomwon Academy" is part of an educational project for island region promotion. Its purpose is to establish and expand island education base campuses, raise nationwide interest in islands, discover humanities and ecological resources such as island history, culture, and environment, and cultivate specialized island leaders and experts.
Through the Tongyeong Campus, sustainable development policies for islands will be communicated to Gyeongnam residents and local citizens, and field-centered, customized, and systematic education will be conducted.
Starting with this agreement, the Korea Island Promotion Agency, Gyeongnam Province, and Tongyeong City plan to maintain a mutually cooperative relationship and expand the scope of exchanges and cooperation for island development.
Oh Dongho, Director of the Korea Island Promotion Agency, said, "Gyeongnam is the region with the largest island population, so the significance of this agreement is very great," adding, "The Korea Island Promotion Agency, Gyeongnam Province, and Tongyeong City will work together to improve living conditions for island residents and develop island communities."
