Former Prime Minister Han Seung-soo Elected Chair of the UN General Assembly Presidents' Meeting
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Former Prime Minister Han Seung-soo has been elected as the Chair of the 'Conference of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly' (CPGA), composed of former UNGA Chairs.
According to the Korean Permanent Mission to the UN on the 24th (local time), the CPGA made this decision at its annual meeting held on the 20th at the UN Headquarters in New York to commemorate its 25th anniversary. Former Prime Minister Han was elected Chair, and Jan Kavan, former Czech Foreign Minister, was elected Vice-Chair. The term is three years.
The CPGA is an international senior forum consisting of living former Chairs of the UN General Assembly and was established in 1997. Previously, Han served as the Chair of the 56th UN General Assembly in 2001 when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs.
