Seoul City to Open 'Gwanak Complex Lifelong Education Center' on July 1... Hub for Lifelong Learning
Operation of Programs to Enhance Youth Employment Competency, Job Skills, and Essential Competencies for the 4th Industrial Revolution Era
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 25th that it will convert the existing Seoul English Village Gwanak Camp into the 'Seoul Gwanak Complex Lifelong Education Center' and open it on the 1st of next month.
The Seoul Gwanak Complex Lifelong Education Center plans to become a 'lifelong learning hub' in the Gwanak area that responds to lifelong education in new industry fields and the diverse learning needs of citizens.
The Seoul Gwanak Complex Lifelong Education Center will develop and operate customized lifelong education programs tailored to various life stages and age groups, including ▲'Establishment of a lifelong education center specialized in employment and entrepreneurship' to strengthen the capabilities of youth based in the surrounding area ▲'Creation of a new industry educational environment' suitable for the 4th industrial and digital innovation era ▲'Provision of user-customized lifelong learning' that meets the diverse learning needs of citizens.
In line with the rapidly changing society, a 'regular intensive program for youth' to strengthen practical employment capabilities and a 'regular intensive program for career-interrupted job seekers' for those whose careers have been interrupted due to child-rearing will be operated every morning except weekends and holidays.
First, in accordance with recent hiring trends, a 'employment lifelong education program' will be conducted to identify the individual job characteristics desired by job seekers and intensively strengthen job-seeking skills and practical capabilities. Additionally, a lifelong education specialized program will be offered to enable successful entry and entrepreneurship not only domestically but also overseas.
Expanded virtual world (metaverse), coding, and various advanced digital experience programs will also be conducted to strengthen the 5C competencies (Communication, Critical thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, Challenge spirit), which are core competencies to prepare for the future 4th industrial era.
Generation-tailored English and second language education to help basic understanding of world cultures and communication with foreigners will also be provided. Furthermore, a 'life-oriented liberal lifelong education program' designed to induce and allow citizens to enjoy interest and enthusiasm in humanities, culture, and arts has been prepared.

Lee Hoe-seung, Director of Lifelong Education Bureau of Seoul City, said, “We have refurbished the existing English Village Gwanak Camp facilities and opened the 'Seoul Gwanak Complex Lifelong Education Center' to provide future-oriented lifelong learning programs that meet the diverse lifelong learning needs of citizens.” He added, “The demand for specialization in lifelong education is increasing, and local governments’ interest and efforts to guarantee educational rights by life cycle from youth to middle-aged and elderly must also be strengthened.”
