Sinan-gun Completes First Phase of Aquaculture Facility Removal at Heuksando Port
Second Phase Removal of Aquaculture Facilities to Create a Clean Fishing Port in Heuksando
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, completed the first phase of removal of aquaculture facilities within the harbor in July to improve the function of Heuksando Port and create a clean fishing port.
Due to the designation of Heuksan Port as a national fishing port and the port development project, aquaculture activities will be restricted until 2025. To prevent damage to existing aquaculture operators, the county independently decided, through consultations with fishery workers, to remove all aquaculture facilities within the total fishery rights area of 12.8 hectares (equivalent to 18 soccer fields) in the relevant fishing communities (Jinri 1-gu, Jinri 2-gu) by investing 2.5 billion KRW of county funds.
The main plan includes suspending aquaculture activities within the harbor until June next year and guaranteeing support for facility removal. The full amount of purchase payments due this year has already been paid, and the remaining purchase payments are planned to be paid in the first half of next year.
Facilities that were unavoidably included in the second phase of the project next year, as well as underwater remnants and structures that could hinder safe navigation of vessels, are currently under detailed design investigation, aiming for completion in the first half of next year.
With this project, the gateway and the natural scenic beauty of Heuksando, which had long been obscured by aquaculture facilities, are now revealed, offering a new charm of Heuksando Port not only to residents but also to tourists.
