Five Stories Including 'Supsok-ui Dam' in 'Today's Uri Manhwa'
'Love Alarm', 'No Home', 'God's Taegung', 'We Are the Zombies'
Five comics, including Dahong's Supssok-ui Dam and Cheon Gye-yeong's Joahamyeon Ullineun, were selected as masterpieces that shone this year.
The Korea Manhwa Contents Agency announced the winners of the '2022 Today's Our Comics' on the 24th. Along with Supssok-ui Dam and Joahamyeon Ullineun, the selected works include Wanan's Jibi Eopseo, Haesogeum's Sin-ui Taegung, and Lee Myeong-jae's We Are the Zombie. Each receives the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award along with a prize of 5 million won.
Supssok-ui Dam tells the story of Dam, who had stopped growing and lived in hiding, coming out of the forest to live in the present. It conveys the message that hope sprouting in a destroyed world is carried by people who believe in a faint light and move forward.
Joahamyeon Ullineun is set on the premise of an app that notifies you when someone you like approaches. It has been praised for sounding an alarm in a society where ultra-instant romance is widespread.
Jibi Eopseo is a story about runaway youths who grow through reconciliation and solidarity amid conflicts. It emphasizes that just as individuals have different identities, a home also contains various meanings, offering comfort and empathy.
Sin-ui Taegung depicts events between a woman who gives birth to and raises a god's child and the rice bowl goblin who loved her. Through protagonists who place the most important value of life on love, it guides readers on a path of recovery and healing.
We Are the Zombie is about races and characters living inside a shopping mall sealed off due to a zombie outbreak. It reflects on what we might be missing in reality by showing how people maintain peace and leisure even in a confined environment.
