Sang-il Lee, Mayor of Yongin, "Pressure for the Resignation of the City Research Institute Director Is an Absurd Rumor"
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin dismissed rumors that he exerted undue pressure on the resignation of the head of the Yongin City Administration Research Institute as "absurd."
On the 23rd, Mayor Lee released a statement explaining, "The dismissal of Mr. J, the head of the Yongin City Administration Research Institute, was carried out after the board meeting and resolution because the office inspection of Yongin City revealed unacceptable wrongful acts and Mr. J repeatedly avoided the city's investigations with unreasonable excuses."
He continued, "After completing the investigation, Yongin City requested the dismissal of Mr. J to the Research Institute, and a few days before the board meeting to discuss this issue, Mr. J submitted his resignation letter. Both Yongin City and the Research Institute board considered that Mr. J's actions were seriously problematic and that public officials should learn lessons from his case, which led to the request and decision for dismissal."
Previously, Yongin City conducted an office audit of the Yongin City Administration Research Institute from August 10 to 23. From August 24 to September 26, the city requested Mr. J six times to submit confirmation documents and explanations based on the audit results. Despite these six requests, Mr. J did not respond and submitted his resignation letter on October 6, a few days before the board meeting.
Following this, Yongin City requested the dismissal of Mr. J, and the Yongin City Administration Research Institute held a board meeting on October 17 and resolved to dismiss Mr. J.

Regarding this, a Yongin City official stated, "Considering the progress of the office inspection, Mr. J’s dismissal was fully anticipated when he submitted his resignation. It seems he thought that if his resignation was accepted, the reasons for disciplinary action might be concealed. However, typically, when disciplinary procedures begin for public officials and employees of public institutions, resignation is not processed until the results are finalized."
