Gyeonggi-do, 57 Surveying Companies Caught for Illegal Activities Including Unregistered Business Operations
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has uncovered a large number of surveying companies that committed illegal activities such as continuously conducting surveying business or delaying surveying equipment performance inspections even after their registration was canceled or they had closed down.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that from May to October, it conducted inspections on 458 public and general surveying companies managed by the province and found 57 companies violating related laws, deciding to take administrative actions against them.
The violations detected this time include ▲ 6 cases of unregistered business operations ▲ 7 cases of failing to meet registration standards ▲ 10 cases of delayed change notifications ▲ 34 cases of delayed surveying equipment performance inspections.
The province plans to first notify the Director of the National Geographic Information Institute, who has the authority for administrative disposition, about the companies delaying surveying equipment performance inspections. The remaining 23 companies will face administrative actions such as prosecution, registration cancellation, and fines.
Among the surveying companies whose registrations were canceled or that had closed, 6 companies that continuously engaged in illegal business activities will be reported to the relevant police station after verifying their licensing details.
Operation of surveying businesses must maintain technical personnel and equipment according to registration standards under the Act on the Construction and Management of Spatial Information, and failure to meet these standards is grounds for registration cancellation.
If there are changes in the registered details of a surveying business such as the representative, location, technical personnel, or equipment, changes to the location and representative must be reported within 30 days from the date of change, and changes to technical personnel and equipment must be reported within 90 days. Violations of this requirement may result in administrative penalties such as fines up to 1 million KRW or business suspension.

Ko Jung-guk, Director of the Land Information Division of the province, emphasized, "Formally registered surveying companies are always publicly available on the Gyeonggi Province Real Estate Portal, so it is advisable to check during the permit application process such as for development activities," adding, "We will minimize damage to residents through strong administrative actions against companies violating related laws."
