Biden Emphasizes 'Cooperation' on Italian Prime Minister's Inauguration

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] U.S. President Joe Biden congratulated Giorgia Meloni, Italy's first female prime minister, on her inauguration and emphasized a message of cooperation.
In a statement released by the White House on the 22nd (local time), President Biden said, "I congratulate Prime Minister Meloni on becoming Italy's new prime minister," and emphasized, "Italy is a key NATO ally and a close partner in responding to shared international challenges."
President Biden added, "As a member of the Group of Seven (G7), I look forward to continuing support for Ukraine, respecting human rights and democratic values, and building sustainable economic growth."
The new Italian cabinet led by newly appointed Prime Minister Meloni officially took office on the same day. Meloni, a far-right politician nicknamed the 'female Mussolini,' and the 24 ministers leading various departments took their oath of office at the Quirinal Palace in Rome, the presidential residence, before President Sergio Mattarella, marking the start of their governance.
