[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The government has launched a fact-finding survey to grasp the current status of electrical equipment safety management.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it will conduct this year's "Electrical Safety Management Work Fact-Finding Survey" for about five weeks from the 21st to the 30th of next month. The survey targets approximately 500 workplaces, including safety management consignment and agency operators equipped with self-use electrical facilities of 75KW or more.
According to the Electrical Safety Management Act, the Ministry conducts an annual fact-finding survey targeting electrical facility workplaces. The survey team consists of the Ministry, local governments, the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and the Electrical Engineers Association. To expedite the survey, the Ministry organized eight regional survey teams in Seoul, Jeju, Gyeonggi, Incheon, and other areas.
The Ministry plans to focus on mandatory requirements related to overall electrical safety management tasks in this survey. The key investigation targets include the appointment and equipment possession status of workplace electrical safety managers, the qualifications of appointees and the appropriateness of safety management task execution, and whether regular inspections of electrical facilities have been conducted.
For electrical safety management consignment and agency operators, registration requirements such as registered technical personnel and equipment possession will be checked. The agency operators will be inspected for the scope and workload excess of delegated tasks by technical personnel affiliated with the business, qualification lending, and the number of regulation inspections.
The Ministry recommends immediate on-site improvements for simple corrective matters. If violations defined by law are found, administrative actions such as criminal charges and fines will be taken.
Meanwhile, the results of the fact-finding survey will be disclosed on the Electrical Safety Comprehensive Information System. The Ministry also intends to actively utilize field opinions on difficulties related to the electrical safety management system collected during the survey process for system improvements.
