Yoon Disciplinary Cancellation Lawsuit 2nd Trial Resumes After 6 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The trial for the main lawsuit filed by President Yoon Seok-yeol, requesting the cancellation of the disciplinary action he received two years ago while serving as Prosecutor General, was held again after six months.
The Seoul High Court Administrative Division 1-1 (Presiding Judges Shim Jun-bo, Kim Jong-ho, Lee Seung-han) held the second preparatory hearing for the appeal trial of President Yoon's disciplinary cancellation lawsuit against the Ministry of Justice on the 18th.
The trial was held about six months after the first preparatory hearing on April 19. Originally, the court had scheduled the second hearing for June, but the trial was postponed as the Ministry of Justice replaced its legal representative citing conflicts of interest and breach of delegation contract.
The court conducted the trial behind closed doors that day. For about 20 minutes, both sides presented their plans for evidence and positions on the issues. Considering that the preparatory procedures will conclude on the 15th of next month, it is expected that the full trial will begin in earnest as early as the end of the year.
President Yoon received a two-month suspension on December 16, 2020, from the Ministry of Justice while serving as Prosecutor General, for reasons including the creation and distribution of documents alleging surveillance of major trial panels, obstruction of the Channel A case inspection, interference with the investigation of the Channel A case, and violation of political neutrality as a prosecutor.

In response, President Yoon applied to the court for a provisional suspension of the disciplinary action's effect and received a favorable ruling one week later. He then filed the main lawsuit requesting cancellation of the disciplinary action but lost in the first trial in October last year.
