Photo Transfer, Mobility, and Shopping Services Restored
Daum and Kakao Mail, Talk Channel, and Talk Drawer Services Recovery Delayed
Joint Investigation Scheduled Today at Fire Site
[Asia Economy Culture Young Intern Reporter] Kakao's major services, which experienced disruptions due to a data center fire last weekend, are gradually being restored. On the 16th, Kakao announced the service recovery status through the portal Daum homepage, stating, "As of 9:30 PM, the main functions of KakaoTalk and Kakao services are largely normalized."
Functions such as sending images and videos on KakaoTalk, KakaoTalk Shopping, push message usage, and ordering have been restored. Major functions of Kakao Mobility, Kakao Pay, Kakao Webtoon, Melon, Kakao Games, and the portal site Daum are also back to normal.
Currently available Kakao services include ▲ image, video, and file transmission ▲ shopping ▲ Friends Shop ▲ electronic signature ▲ wallet service ▲ push message usage ▲ ordering ▲ chatbot service ▲ pay purchase ▲ Biz plugin, among others.
In addition, major services such as Kakao Pay, Kakao Mobility, Kakao Map, and Kakao Webtoon have been fully restored. Kakao TV's main functions are operating normally, and Melon supports streaming and search services. Kakao Games has restored PC game services following mobile games. The clothing app 'Jigjag' operated by Kakao Style has completed restoration of Kakao Pay payment and order cancellation functions.
The portal site Daum and its View service have normalized news, view, and video services. Daum Cafe now allows posting, reading, commenting, and message notifications across PC, mobile web, and mobile apps. Major functions of KakaoStory have been restored, and Tistory's reading function is back to normal.
Services still under recovery include ▲ Talk Channel ▲ Talk Drawer ▲ Digital Card service ▲ Emoticon search. Access to Daum and Kakao Mail remains difficult, and Kakao Map's Road View function is limited.
Due to the delayed recovery work, users continue to report inconveniences. Office worker Mr. A said that while working over the weekend, he had to send photos, videos, and files one by one via text messages because they could not be sent through KakaoTalk. Mr. A expressed frustration, saying, "I also couldn't use the Daum mail I usually use, so I had to use another portal site's mail."
University student Mr. B, who was startled by the inability to use music listening and emoticon services, said, "Every action I usually took was connected to Kakao."
Kakao has formed an emergency response team consisting of key executives from the headquarters and subsidiaries and plans to receive damage reports within this week, preparing compensation plans for each service. Mr. B, a representative operating a Kakao Shopping store affected by this Kakao outage incident, said in an interview with MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 17th, "Sales dropped by about 30 to 40 percent."

According to the first joint inspection by fire and police on the 16th, the fire is presumed to have started due to electrical causes in the battery storage area inside the electrical room. To determine the exact cause of the fire, a joint inspection involving the National Forensic Service will be conducted at the fire site on the 17th.
