[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the morning of the 15th, Choi Ho-gwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, attended the opening ceremony of the '2nd Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor's Baseball and Softball Tournament' held at Yangpyeong Nuri Sports Park Adult Baseball Field.
The tournament will run for about three months starting from that day, with 24 teams and approximately 570 players participating. It will be conducted in a league format, with matches held every Saturday to compete for the final championship based on the skills honed so far.
Choi Ho-gwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, "I hope this baseball and softball tournament will be one where fair competition encourages and supports each other," and added, "We will do our best to create conditions where all residents can enjoy sports activities close to their homes."
On the morning of the 15th at 10 a.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the '2022 Nowon-gu Residents Sports Festival' held at Madeul Sports Town.
Hosted by the Nowon-gu Sports Council and organized by the 19 district sports councils of Nowon-gu, this event is significant as it was planned and promoted by the residents themselves.
Before the opening ceremony, the Nowon-gu Taekwondo demonstration team and cheerleading performances were held. The opening ceremony proceeded in the order of national anthem, opening declaration, introduction of guests, congratulatory speeches, encouragement speeches, trophy return, athlete's oath, torch relay, and commemorative photo session.
The sports events included six categories: '7-player penalty shootout', 'Cooperative ball bouncing', 'Mixed obstacle relay', 'Tug of war', 'Color plate flipping', and volleyball (with a women's arm wrestling competition as an extra event). A total of about 3,000 pre-selected athletes and residents competed fiercely.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "After three years, we were able to hold a sports festival where residents gather to unite and communicate," and added, "I hope this event, where everyone enjoys the games together, will encourage interest in participating in community sports and provide an opportunity for local residents to run together and feel the warmth of their neighbors."
