"Not Missing a Single Child" ... Busan Office of Education Announces Protection Measures for Students Victimized by Sexual Harassment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced measures to protect vulnerable victim students on the 13th, prompted by a sexual harassment case involving an elementary school student in the district.
The Busan Office of Education decided to actively protect victim students by providing counseling for victims and their parents, supporting customized programs for victim students in cooperation with dedicated agencies, and offering prompt assistance for school adaptation.
To ensure swift support in cases of school violence involving vulnerable groups such as special education students and multicultural students, the reporting system will be reorganized so that incidents can be immediately reported to the city education office.
In cases of serious school violence related to sexual matters, a special subcommittee composed of experts will be strengthened to review such cases.
A special training program aimed at enhancing gender sensitivity and disability awareness will also be conducted for the School Violence Countermeasure Deliberation Committees of the five educational support offices under the Busan Office of Education.
Additionally, if the victim side requests a reconsideration of the School Violence Countermeasure Deliberation Committee’s decision regarding measures related to the incident, the procedure will be promptly carried out.
Furthermore, a full investigation will be conducted into the sexual harassment case involving an elementary school student in the jurisdiction of the Western Educational Support Office that occurred on June 30.
This measure follows demands made during the national audit on the 12th for an investigation into school violence cases and for strengthening protection measures for vulnerable victim students.
