[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim I-gang) is implementing a special cleanliness enhancement plan to make Sangmu District, Gwangju's representative urban area, a clean and prestigious top-tier cleanliness city.
According to Seo-gu on the 12th, Sangmu District is a place where MICE industry infrastructure such as Gwangju City Hall, Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, and Ramada Hotel is established, and it hosts various domestic and international events such as international conferences, exhibitions, and fairs.
Accordingly, Seo-gu is making every effort to create a clean Sangmu District by operating a dedicated Sunday cleaning team for Sangmu District, promoting public awareness on compliance with garbage disposal times, and promoting the Clean Store Clean Seo-gu campaign to provide a clean environment for domestic and foreign visitors who come to Sangmu District for business.
Since the 2nd, a 'Sunday Dedicated Cleaning Team' has also been operating to handle various types of trash that spoil the urban landscape, such as cigarette butts, flyers, and disposable products.
Seo-gu plans to strengthen public awareness activities on compliance with garbage disposal times targeting stores in the area.
In addition, Seo-gu will build a public-private cooperative cleanliness system together with the Chipyeong-dong Merchants Association and self-governing organizations, promote the "I sweep in front of my store, my shop" movement and the "Clean Store Clean Seo-gu" campaign, and support cleaning supplies to participating stores, making multifaceted efforts to raise citizens' cleanliness awareness.
A Seo-gu official said, "No matter how good a policy is, nothing is as effective as a mature civic consciousness that properly observes basic order," and added, "I ask everyone to become proud citizens of Gwangju and start with a clean Seo-gu from themselves."
