8,000 Visitors Over Four Days... '2022 Genesis Championship' Successfully Concludes
Kim Young-su Wins with 6-Under 282
Prize Money 300 Million KRW, GV80, and Overseas Tournament Entry Rights Awarded
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Genesis brand successfully concluded the "2022 Genesis Championship," held over four days from the 6th to the 9th at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Songdo, Incheon.
The tournament victory went to Kim Youngsoo (33 years old, affiliated with PNS Holdings), who recorded a final total of 6-under-par 282 over 4 rounds, earning a prize of 300 million KRW and the award of a Genesis GV80 vehicle. Along with this, he secured qualifications to participate in three overseas tour events next year: the "Genesis Invitational," the "Genesis Scottish Open," and "The CJ Cup."
Kim Youngsoo took the lead at the 7th hole in the final round and maintained it until the end, achieving his first-ever professional tournament win.
The "2022 Genesis Championship" was held amid eased domestic quarantine guidelines, allowing spectators to attend in person once again, generating greater anticipation and interest from domestic golf fans than ever before. Over the four days, about 8,000 galleries visited the site to cheer on the players.
To meet these expectations, Genesis prepared the tournament under the theme of an "inspiring journey," with diverse arrangements to help players grow to the next level while providing fans with a special experience.
Above all, Genesis spared no support to ensure participants could perform at their best. During the tournament, hotel accommodations were provided, and exclusive movement routes were arranged at the venue to prevent players from crossing paths with galleries.
Additionally, to help players refine their game sense in an environment as close to actual play as possible, over 8,500 golf balls from six popular brands were prepared at the driving range, along with the installation of launch monitors.
Furthermore, convenience spaces such as a "family lounge" were expanded not only for players and caddies but also for their families, allowing players to focus solely on their performance.
Genesis also paid attention to caddies. For the first time this year, a separate trophy was prepared for the winning player's caddie, and caddie bibs worn by past champions' caddies were exhibited at the Gallery Plaza, strengthening the caddie appreciation program to foster a more mature golf culture domestically.
Jang Jaehoon, President of Genesis, said, "I hope not only the players but also the spectators who watched the play on-site gained inspiration for greater leaps forward," adding, "We will continue to increase touchpoints with domestic and international customers through steady sponsorship of various golf tournaments and support Korean players to succeed on the global stage."
Immediately after his victory, Kim Youngsoo said, "I still can't believe I achieved my first win at the 'Genesis Championship,'" and expressed gratitude, saying, "I thank the Genesis officials who generously supported the players and created the best domestic tournament."
