A is accused of attempting to fraudulently obtain 16 million won from a victim around 2 p.m. on the 4th under the instructions of a telephone financial fraud (voice phishing) organization.
A was caught following a report from a citizen who noticed suspicious behavior.
The citizen said, "While walking, I found an elderly person holding a bundle of money and suspected something as he was taking turns talking on the phone with a young man in front of him."
The police plan to investigate whether A has any additional undisclosed illicit gains.
Meanwhile, the police plan to reward the citizen who contributed to the arrest.
