30-Year Veteran Expert in the Electronics Industry's "Rice," MLCC
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Kim Dooyoung, Vice President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, received the Bronze Tower Industrial Medal on the 5th at the ‘17th Electronics and IT Day’ awards ceremony held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, for his contribution to strengthening the competitiveness of Korea's materials and components industry.
Electronics and IT Day was established in 2005 to commemorate the achievement of $100 billion in electronics exports. It awards industrial medals, industrial decorations, and presidential citations to individuals who have contributed to the development of the electronics and IT industry and the enhancement of the nation's status.
Vice President Kim joined Samsung Electro-Mechanics in 1990 and developed core technologies for multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) products and equipment, enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic passive components industry. In 2007, he developed the world's first MLCC with the highest capacity and smallest size, and since 2011, as the head of the MLCC development team, he proactively responded to the high performance and thinning of smartphones by developing the world's first MLCC applying a thin sheet under 1 micrometer (㎛).
In 2015, as the MLCC manufacturing team leader, he applied innovative methods and equipment to mass production, establishing a manufacturing process system with high yield and high productivity. In 2018, he built a dedicated MLCC line for automotive electronics at the Busan plant, laying the foundation for the localization of automotive components. He also worked to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic ceramic materials and components industry through win-win growth with partner companies and fostering excellent talent through industry-academia cooperation.
Vice President Kim said, “I want to share this honor with our engineers who worked hard and shared their passion to create the best products,” and added, “We will continue to secure cutting-edge core technologies for materials and components to contribute to the development of the domestic electronic components industry.”
