Yeosu City Signs Business Agreement to Host National Maritime and Fisheries Museum in Yeosu
On the Morning of the 4th, Business Agreement Signed at the Mayor's Office with Yeosu City Council and Yeosu World Expo Foundation
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong), Yeosu City Council (Chairman Kim Young-gyu), and the 2012 Yeosu World Expo Foundation (Chairman Kang Yong-joo) signed a "Business Agreement for Attracting the National Maritime Fisheries Museum to Yeosu" on the morning of the 4th in the mayor's office.
Through the agreement ceremony, the three organizations pledged to join forces to attract the National Maritime Fisheries Museum to Yeosu, which is being solicited by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and to actively cooperate in providing the site and other matters.
Yeosu City, with the unanimous recommendation of the city council, selected the Yeosu World Expo site as a candidate location for the construction of the National Maritime Fisheries Museum and is conducting a large-scale campaign to gain support from all citizens for the attraction.
According to the city, the Yeosu World Expo site includes existing facilities such as the Youth Marine Education Center and Aqua Planet, and the National Marine Meteorological Science Center is also under construction, so a synergy effect with the National Maritime Fisheries Museum, an educational and exhibition space for marine fisheries, is expected.
In addition, it is close to Yeosu Expo Station and Expo Passenger Terminal, which is evaluated to be excellent for mutual development with nearby regions and wide-area linkage effects.
In particular, it is considered the optimal site as it meets the demands for post-use of the Expo site facilities designated by the "Special Act on Commemoration and Post-Use of the Yeosu World Expo" and the expansion of marine cultural facilities in the southern coastal area.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong said at the agreement ceremony, "I thank the city council and the Expo Foundation for their efforts to attract the National Maritime Fisheries Museum. Since many citizens and civic groups are supporting with passionate enthusiasm, I expect that the National Maritime Fisheries Museum will definitely be established in our Yeosu."
Meanwhile, Jeollanam-do and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute plan to accept applications for the National Maritime Fisheries Museum construction attraction contest until the 7th, conduct on-site evaluations, select the final site, and announce it on the 17th of the same month.
