Walking While Imagining the Undergrounding of Gyeongbu Expressway in Seocho-gu
[Seoul District News] Seocho-gu, Approximately 6.5km Section Around Gyeongbu Expressway (Maehun Citizen's Forest~Gilmachung-gil~Hangang Sinjamwon Interchange) & Two Challenges: 'Walking Along the Trail Challenge' and 'Stamp Challenge', Gifts for Mission Completion
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is holding a rich event for a month where you can take care of your health and receive gifts while walking along the "Gyeongbu Expressway Surrounding Walking Trail" on a cool autumn day after the hot heat has passed.
Recently, due to irregular lifestyle habits caused by COVID-19, health risks have increased, so the district office is conducting a walking mileage event every month at the Seocho-gu Public Health Center to improve healthy lifestyle habits and spread walking culture among residents. This October, the "Gyeongbu Expressway Surrounding Walking Trail" was selected as the walking course for the event.
The Gyeongbu Expressway Surrounding Walking Trail is a total 6.5km section from Maehun Citizen's Forest through Gilmajung-gil to Hangang Sinjamwon Interchange.
To participate, download the WalkOn app from Google Play (Android) or the App Store (Apple), then go to the Challenge tab at the bottom.
There are two challenges opened for the Gyeongbu Expressway Walking Challenge. First, the "Walking Trail Challenge" requires walking at least 70% of the total 6.5km course to complete the mission. The "Stamp Challenge" requires visiting 6 locations within the course and collecting all stamps.
When walking the trail using the WalkOn app, your location is automatically tracked via your phone’s GPS, and when you pass near a stamp location, the stamp is automatically confirmed.
Both WalkOn challenges can be participated in simultaneously, and those who complete the missions will be entered into a draw to receive prizes. Additionally, those who certify their participation in walking on Seocho-gu’s SNS (Instagram, Facebook, Blog) will also be entered into a draw for prizes.
This WalkOn challenge will be held throughout October and is open to anyone using the walking trail, not just Seocho-gu residents. At Gilmajung-gil, a public health center exercise instructor will introduce exercise methods, explain exercise effects and precautions, providing exercise guidance so participants can learn proper exercise methods while walking.
The district and Seoul city are promoting a project to underground approximately 6.8km of the Gyeongbu Expressway section from Yangjae to Hannam IC and construct a three-level road. The project involves tunneling underground with a multi-level tunnel and developing the upper space into parks and mixed-use developments. The district expects that chronic traffic congestion will be resolved, and the disconnected east-west living areas will be connected, completely transforming Seocho’s urban spatial structure.
