Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake Strikes Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan... No Tsunami Warning Issued
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred at 12:02 a.m. on the 2nd in Miyazaki Prefecture on Kyushu Island, Japan.
According to the Meteorological Agency, the seismic intensity, which indicates the relative strength of shaking observed in various locations, was measured at "lower 5" on the Japanese seismic intensity scale.
A seismic intensity of lower 5 means that most people feel fear and want to hold onto something for support, and dishes or books on shelves may fall.
The earthquake, which occurred in the sea off the Osumi Peninsula, had a focal depth of 30 km.
The earthquake was detected not only in many areas within the prefecture including Miyazaki City but also in neighboring prefectures.
No tsunami warning was issued. The police stated that there have been no reports of injuries so far.
Kyushu Electric Power Company announced that no abnormalities were found at the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the earthquake occurred 27 km southeast of Kushima, Miyazaki Prefecture, and the focal depth was 28.3 km.
