7 Districts in Seoul's Southwest Issue 'Ozone Warning'... Northeast Districts Lifted (Comprehensive)
An ozone advisory has been issued for seven districts in the southwestern area of Seoul.
The Seoul Institute of Health and Environment announced at 4 p.m. on the 1st that an ozone advisory was issued for seven southwestern districts (Yangcheon, Gangseo, Guro, Geumcheon, Yeongdeungpo, Dongjak, Gwanak).
Earlier, at 3 p.m., an ozone advisory was issued for eight northeastern districts (Seongdong, Gwangjin, Dongdaemun, Jungnang, Seongbuk, Gangbuk, Dobong, Nowon), but it was lifted at 4 p.m.
Seoul city issues an advisory when the one-hour average ozone concentration in the relevant districts exceeds 0.120 ppm.
Ozone is a secondary pollutant formed when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmosphere react photochemically with solar energy. High concentrations of ozone irritate the respiratory system and eyes, causing inflammation and, in severe cases, respiratory disorders.
