KCDC: "We Will Actively Participate in Preparing Strategies for Infectious Disease Situations in North Korea"
Considering Crises Such as COVID-19 and Monkeypox
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Baek Kyung-ran, Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, stated on the 30th, "The KDCA will actively participate in establishing the basis for strategies and policies to respond to infectious diseases and their impacts in preparation for sudden changes in infectious disease situations in North Korea."
Commissioner Baek made these remarks during the welcoming address at the 2022 plenary meeting of the 'Korean Peninsula Health and Medical Cooperation Platform' held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul, emphasizing the increasing need for cooperation in the health sector between South and North Korea.
He said, "Globally, health crises such as COVID-19 and monkeypox continue, and due to climate change, new infectious disease outbreaks may occur. We must deeply consider the health and medical issues and causes facing the Korean Peninsula and implement efforts where domestic and international organizations, international agencies, local governments, and the government join forces to resolve them."
