African Swine Fever Outbreak in Paju Following Gimpo, Gyeonggi... 700 Pigs Culled
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seonhee] African Swine Fever (ASF) has occurred at a pig farm located in Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province. Following recent ASF outbreaks in Gangwon-do and Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do, the disease appears to be gradually spreading.
On the 29th, the ASF Central Accident Response Headquarters (CARH) confirmed this fact at a pig farm in Paju-si the previous day and dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the site to control access of outsiders, livestock, and vehicles to the farm, while conducting disinfection and epidemiological investigations as emergency quarantine measures. Approximately 700 pigs are being raised at the farm, and it is reported that there are no pig farms within 3 km of the vicinity.
To prevent further spread of ASF, the CARH plans to carry out culling of all pigs raised at the affected farms (Gimpo-si and Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province) in accordance with the emergency action guidelines (SOP).
Additionally, to block contamination in the affected areas, intensive disinfection is underway at pig farms and surrounding roads in Gyeonggi-do (including Cheorwon, Gangwon-do) and Incheon. In particular, disinfection efforts are being strengthened in Gimpo, Paju, Ganghwa, Goyang, Yangju, Yeoncheon, and Dongducheon.

To prevent horizontal transmission between farms, a temporary movement suspension order (Standstill) has been issued for 48 hours from 5 p.m. on the previous day until 5 p.m. on the 30th, targeting livestock-related facility workers and vehicles at pig farms, slaughterhouses, and feed factories in Gyeonggi-do (including Cheorwon, Gangwon-do) and Incheon. Movement of pigs and manure outside the Gyeonggi area farms is also prohibited.
