KORAIL announced on the 28th that it will additionally install CCTV cameras inside trains to ensure customer safety and alleviate concerns about loss or theft of personal belongings.
Currently, KORAIL has installed CCTV cameras at all railway stations, recording 24 hours a day. The recorded footage is used to prevent crimes at stations and inside trains. Recently, the recorded footage helped resolve railway-related incidents and accidents, including habitual theft of personal belongings on high-speed trains.
In addition, KORAIL plans to install additional CCTV cameras inside KTX trains to proactively prevent incidents and accidents on board.
According to relevant laws, CCTV must be installed inside trains by June 2024. However, KORAIL plans to complete the installation of CCTV cameras inside KTX trains by the end of this year and inside regular trains by the first half of next year, sequentially.
A total of four CCTV cameras will be installed in each train car. Of these, two cameras will be installed around the luggage racks to prevent theft of personal belongings, according to KORAIL.
Along with the CCTV installation, KORAIL will attach CCTV recording notice signs on train car doors and luggage racks, and strengthen announcement broadcasts for crime prevention and patrols by train crew members.
