Joint Development of Unmanned Turret and UAV Defense System
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Yeju] Hyundai Rotem is collaborating with Norway's largest defense company to target the global market.
On the 28th, Hyundai Rotem announced that it signed a Teaming Agreement with Norway's Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS. Kongsberg is Norway's largest defense company, supplying world-class ground weaponry, aerospace systems, and solutions.
Hyundai Rotem previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kongsberg in August last year to cooperate on tank projects, and this new Teaming Agreement further strengthens the partnership between the two companies.
On the 21st, Kongsberg officials visited Hyundai Rotem's exhibition booth at the Korea Defense Industry Exhibition, where the agreement was signed. The agreement includes cooperation on product development and sales activities aimed at capturing the global defense market.
In particular, the two companies established a strategic partnership to apply Kongsberg products such as remote weapon stations and digital integrated systems to Hyundai Rotem's ground weapon platforms, including the K2 tank and K808 wheeled armored vehicle, for sales.
They also agreed to jointly develop future potential product lines such as unmanned turrets and unmanned vehicle protection systems for Hyundai Rotem's next-generation tanks and wheeled armored vehicles.
Through this Teaming Agreement, Hyundai Rotem expects to enhance product competitiveness for global market penetration by developing and applying advanced operational systems that can further strengthen ground weapon platforms like tanks and armored vehicles together with Kongsberg.
Additionally, cooperation with the local Norwegian company Kongsberg is expected to boost efforts to capture the Norwegian tank market. Hyundai Rotem is actively pursuing sales for the Norwegian tank project, and from January to February, winter testing and evaluation of the K2 tank were conducted locally.
