Seoul City Wins Excellence Award at CityNet SDG Awards for 'AI Sewer Pipeline Defect Detection Technology'
Following the Grand Prize Win at the Sustainable Development Goals Awards, Achieving the Excellence Award as Well
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The "AI Sewer Pipe Defect Detection Technology," developed by the Seoul Digital Foundation and applied in Seoul's autonomous districts, won the Excellence Award at the Asia-Pacific Cities Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Awards held at the CityNet Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to the foundation on the 27th, CityNet selected 12 cases as main awards among various urban cases of sustainable development goals, and during the general assembly, three excellence awards were decided through on-site evaluation and voting. The excellence awards were given to Seoul Digital Foundation's ▲AI Sewer Pipe Defect Detection Technology, ▲Sustainable Development Center of Kuala Lumpur City, Malaysia, and ▲Kota Aur village case in Pulau Pinang.
Seoul Digital Foundation's AI Sewer Pipe Defect Detection Technology was developed last December in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Information Systems Department. It is a system where AI automatically identifies 20 types of defects in sewer pipe closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and notifies inspectors. The technology was recognized for its excellence by winning the 'Intelligence Award' at the Korean Intelligent Information Systems Society in June and was invited to present as a best practice at the 'Saudi Global AI Summit' in September.
The AI Sewer Pipe Defect Detection Technology has attracted high interest from Asia-Pacific cities and related organizations where sewer pipe facilities are vulnerable. This technology can ensure citizen safety from various accidents such as soil contamination caused by leakage of polluted water, road and surface subsidence, and sinkhole risks.
