The Jeollanam-do Disabled Sports for All Competition is in its 4th year this year, with the first competition held in Haenam-gun in 2017.
The competition, held again in Ttangkkeut Haenam after five years, was conducted with an opening ceremony on the 22nd, followed by eight official events (gateball, badminton, boccia, sitting volleyball, soccer, table tennis, lawn bowls, athletics) and three harmony events (tug of war, jump rope, darts).
About 1,800 athletes, including people with and without disabilities from 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, participated to compete with the skills they have honed.
At the event site, side events such as a sports bus and promotional booths for city and county specialties were operated, and about 230 volunteers and game officials supported participant convenience and smooth competition progress to ensure a safe event.
In particular, Haenam-gun, having hosted the third competition following the Jeollanam-do Senior Sports Festival held on June 18 and the Jeollanam-do Children’s Sports Festival on August 27, is preparing to host the Jeollanam-do Sports for All Festival in October, further solidifying its position as a prestigious sports hometown.
Myung Hyun-gwan, Mayor of Haenam-gun, stated, “We will do our best to create a sports environment where both people with and without disabilities can be healthy and enjoy sports by increasing accessibility to sports for people with disabilities and expanding the base of sports for all, making it a top city centered on people without discrimination or exclusion.”
