At a gathering with compatriots held at a hotel in Toronto that evening, President Yoon promised, "I thank all of you who have served as bridges between the two countries in politics, economy, culture, and all other fields."
President Yoon evaluated, "The trade volume between the two countries reached a record high of 13 billion dollars, and cooperation is strengthening in future industries as well. The human exchanges, which had temporarily slowed due to COVID-19, are also recovering to previous levels." He added, "The first-generation Korean immigrants settled in Canada have established their livelihoods through diligence and sincerity, and the next generations are actively advancing in Canadian mainstream society. The declaration of October 3rd as Korean Day is also a result of recognizing the contributions of our compatriots to the local society."
Referring to the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Canada next year, he said, "The two countries will open a new 60 years and create a relationship at a higher level."
