On the previous day afternoon at BEXCO in Busan, 7-Eleven signed a business agreement with the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation to reduce marine litter and promote the companion beach program. Through this agreement, they plan to take the lead in reducing marine litter in Korea and carry out various related activities and eco-friendly campaigns.
First, they plan to adopt Imrang Beach as a companion beach, taking the lead in beach cleanup and beautification activities, and contribute to raising public awareness about marine litter reduction. Additionally, promotional videos about marine litter reduction and the companion beach system will be shown on the point-of-sale (POS) screens at 7-Eleven stores nationwide.
The companion beach program is operated by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation. It is a coastal cleanup program that cares for domestic beaches like companion animals. Any domestic organization, company, or school can adopt a beach and must conduct beach cleanup activities at least three times a year and hold at least one marine environment protection campaign annually.
The Imrang Beach adopted by 7-Eleven is located in Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan, and has recently become a local attraction gaining popularity through word of mouth among tourists. Starting this October, 7-Eleven employees will visit Imrang Beach, the companion beach, to begin marine environment cleanup activities together.
