[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] On the 22nd, the Jungbu Police Station in Incheon announced that it had referred Cho Taeksang (63), former Deputy Mayor for Balanced Development of Incheon, to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
Cho is suspected of visiting the office of a certain district mayoral candidate as a public official around April this year, before the June 1 local elections, to deliver an encouragement speech or to support a specific candidate through social networking services (SNS).
He served as the Deputy Mayor of Incheon from February last year until April 17 of this year.
Upon learning of this, the Democratic Party's Jung-gu, Ganghwa, Ongjin Regional Innovation Committee, viewing that Cho, a member of the same party, violated the Public Official Election Act, filed a complaint with the police in July.
