The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 22nd that President Yoon attended the 'Digital Vision Forum' hosted by New York University (NYU) and delivered a keynote speech titled 'Solidarity for Digital Free Citizens' containing this message.
The digital platform government is a core policy of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, meaning that citizens and companies solve social problems together on a foundation where all data is connected. It is a new model of governance where the government moves away from being a monopolistic provider delivering administrative services unilaterally to becoming an innovative partner. The Presidential Committee on Digital Platform Government, a committee directly under the president to promote this, was officially launched on the 2nd.
At the event, President Yoon said, "The platform of the digital platform government promoted by the Republic of Korea government is a groundbreaking start to new welfare that more closely cares for neighbors in need through digital technology."
He added, "As a model country in the deepened digital era, we will share its achievements with global citizens and people of developing countries," and "To this end, the Republic of Korea will precisely establish digital strategies and mobilize national-level capabilities to push forward."
Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT said, "In this turning point called the digital revolution, President Yoon's New York initiative presents to the world the direction Korea's digital innovation should take and the digital order that global citizens should pursue," emphasizing, "It has great significance as a new starting point for global digital innovation."
He continued, "The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to faithfully realize the New York initiative as a model country of digital innovation and strongly promote a pan-government digital strategy to lead the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's national digital policy."
This forum was held in the form of an invitation extended by NYU to President Yoon. The event was attended by key officials from NYU and New York City, as well as major Korean and American digital industry leaders.
Mark Lippert, Vice President of Samsung North America, who hosted the forum, also introduced his past connections with Korea. Lippert previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea. He conveyed a message hoping for "strengthened digital cooperation between Korea and the United States."
