Suncheon-si Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation as an Outstanding Organ Donation Institution
Recognized for Contributions to Organ Donation Culture with Numerous Registered Donors
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it was selected as an excellent institution for organ donation during the 5th Life Sharing Week (9.13.~9.19.) and received the ‘Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation’ at the mayor’s office on the 21st.
Since being designated as a registration institution for organ and human tissue donation hopes in 2009, the city enacted the “Ordinance on Encouraging Organ and Human Tissue Donation in Suncheon City” to promote the donation culture. Hope registrants are provided with benefits such as discounts or exemptions on fees for using sports facilities, tourist attractions, and parking lots operated by the city.
As of the end of June, Suncheon City had over 23,000 people registered as organ donation hopefuls, the highest number among cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, and was recognized for its contribution to fostering a donation culture, leading to its selection as an excellent institution.
Citizens wishing to donate organs and human tissues can register by bringing their ID cards to the Suncheon City Health Center, their local eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center, health branch offices, or clinics.
Meanwhile, the ‘Life Sharing Week,’ now in its fifth year, is designated and held annually for one week starting from the second Monday of September to honor the neighborly love and sacrifice of organ and human tissue donors and to spread the culture of life sharing.
