YouTube "Creators Also Disadvantaged by Network Usage Fees... Urging Signature Campaign Against"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] YouTube has appealed for signatures opposing a bill that mandates network usage fees. They argue that imposing tolls on content providers through network usage fees would also disadvantage creators.
On the 21st, Kirtum Anand, Vice President of YouTube Asia-Pacific, shared details of the "K-Content Industry and Desirable Network Usage Policy Directions Forum" held at the National Assembly on the 20th through the YouTube Korea blog, stating this position.
The bill under consideration at the National Assembly mandates that IT and content companies like Google and Netflix pay fees to telecommunications companies proportional to their massive data usage.
YouTube argued that the network usage fees are unfair because they disadvantage content platforms and domestic creators while allowing internet service providers to profit.
Vice President Kirtum Anand said, "Internet service providers are imposing a double burden on content companies, and these costs will ultimately disadvantage content companies and creators."
