September 21, 2 PM at City Hall... Gathering Opinions from Related Experts and Departments
Achieving 22 Goals, Creating a Global Hydrogen Economy Green City by 2030
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City has prepared a concrete implementation plan to systematically foster and support the local hydrogen industry.
On the 21st at 2 p.m., the city held the final report meeting for the ‘Busan Hydrogen Industry Promotion Basic Plan Establishment Service’ in the 26th-floor conference room of City Hall, gathering opinions from the Busan Hydrogen Industry Committee and related departments.
In December 2021, the city formulated the ‘Busan Hydrogen Industry Promotion Plan’ with the participation of experts in the hydrogen industry sector. To specifically implement this plan, the city started the service at the end of March, which has been conducted by the Busan Research Institute.
This service presents ways to utilize Busan’s strengths throughout the hydrogen lifecycle through an analysis of the current status, including the number of hydrogen industry businesses and workers, and an analysis of industry specialization suitable for the Busan region. It also includes directions and promotion strategies for fostering the hydrogen industry by maximizing Busan’s available resources.
Looking at the promotion strategies by sector, a total of 22 projects were proposed: three tasks including hydrogen port development under ‘Establishment of Marine-Inland Linked Cluster’; seven tasks including hydrogen ship demonstration projects under ‘Demand Creation and Infrastructure Building through Challenge and Innovation’; seven tasks including the establishment of a fuel cell R&D center under ‘Technology Expansion and Talent Development Focused on Practicality and Innovation’; and five tasks including the formation of ammonia-based clean hydrogen production governance under ‘Convergence Type’.
The plan also includes ideas for creating a hydrogen pilot city suited to the region and securing resident acceptance for hydrogen utilization, aiming to expand the use of hydrogen in daily life. Additionally, it proposes project budgets and funding procurement methods to enhance the completeness of the plan.
Busan City plans to actively reflect the opinions presented at the report meeting and establish the regional specialized hydrogen industry promotion basic plan through deliberation and resolution by the Busan Hydrogen Industry Committee next month. The city intends to systematically foster the hydrogen industry through annual implementation checks, evaluations, and feedback.
