Hyundai Rotem Participates in German Railway Expo to Target Overseas Business Expansion
Introduction to Technological Competitiveness of Tram, Train Signal Devices, and Propulsion Systems
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Hyundai Rotem will participate in the international railway vehicle and transportation technology exhibition "InnoTrans 2022," held over four days from the 20th to the 23rd (local time) in Berlin, Germany. The event is attended to focus on expanding overseas business.
This year marks the 13th InnoTrans exhibition. It is the world's largest railway exhibition held biennially. A total of 2,770 companies from 56 countries worldwide, including global railway vehicle manufacturers such as Alstom, Siemens, and CRRC, participate to showcase innovative products in the railway technology field.
At this exhibition, Hyundai Rotem will display actual tram vehicles, hydrogen propulsion systems, Korean Train Control System (KTCS) devices, as well as models of hydrogen electric trams and hydrogen production and charging facilities. On the opening day of the exhibition, the 20th, a hydrogen launching event will be held to introduce Hyundai Rotem's hydrogen vision and its capabilities in supplying integrated solutions for hydrogen electric railway vehicles and hydrogen production and charging infrastructure.
Considering the European operating environment that prefers trams, Hyundai Rotem will showcase one actual tram set in the outdoor exhibition hall. This vehicle is a low-floor type ordered in 2019 by the Warsaw tram operator in Poland, with some deliveries completed and currently in operation.
Additionally, Hyundai Rotem will introduce KTCS, the world's first system that controls trains in real-time using the 4th generation wireless communication-based railway communication network (LTE-R). It has been applied to the Jeolla Line and Ilsan Line in Korea. European broad-gauge railways apply the European Train Control System (ETCS), and Hyundai Rotem's KTCS adopts the same European standard specifications as ETCS. It also obtained SIL 4 certification, the highest safety integrity level, from Germany's TUV-SUD. Based on this, Hyundai Rotem plans to target the global train signaling system market.
Hyundai Rotem has also prepared a separate experience zone where visitors can experience the train environment using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies. Visitors can wear VR equipment to observe the interior and exterior design and driving environment of the train from a passenger's perspective. Using AR equipment, they can virtually experience checking the maintenance cycle of bogie parts and assembly/disassembly work. A bogie is a device composed of wheels, axles, and other components that supports the train.
