Ministry of the Interior and Safety Allocates 18.5 Billion KRW in Emergency Disaster Relief Funds for Typhoon 'Hinnamnor' Affected Areas
Partial Emergency Allocation of National Government's Share for Disaster Relief Funds to Private Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 20th that it will prioritize the allocation of 18.5 billion KRW in national funds to areas severely affected by Typhoon Hinnamnor, particularly those with significant private property damage such as residential flooding.
The national funds being allocated this time are estimated based on local governments' applications for the national share of disaster relief payments for private facilities, including confirmed damages to houses and crops (15 billion KRW for Gyeongbuk, 3.5 billion KRW for Jeju) after local governments verified the damage.
The Ministry explained that this proactive measure considers that if national funds are provided after finalizing the recovery plan through central joint investigations and consultations with related ministries, the timing of disaster relief payments could be delayed until October, and local governments currently prepaying disaster relief might face delays due to lack of available resources.
So far, the government has provided urgent support to assist evacuees and emergency recovery in the affected areas by promptly declaring special disaster zones on September 7, the day after the damage occurred, and allocating 16 billion KRW in special disaster safety grants in two installments.
Meanwhile, a joint free repair team from the three major home appliance companies (Samsung, LG, Winia) has been operating in the Pohang area, which suffered large-scale flooding damage to houses and commercial buildings, and free repairs continue to be accepted nationwide through service centers.
