National Police Agency International Conference on Eradicating Intellectual Property Crimes
Jointly Hosted with Interpol on the 20th-21st
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The National Police Agency, in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), will hold the "15th International Intellectual Property Crime Conference" to eradicate intellectual property crimes such as the illegal distribution of Hallyu content.
The two-day conference on the 20th and 21st will cover nine topics including "Countermeasures against Online Copyright Crimes," the correlation between intellectual property infringement and money laundering, consumer health and safety regarding pharmaceuticals, and strengthening capabilities to respond to intellectual property crimes. Domestic and international stakeholders in the intellectual property field will gather in one place to discuss the latest trends and key issues related to intellectual property crimes.
The International Intellectual Property Crime Conference, first held in Canada in 2007, is one of the world's largest events where experts from international organizations, government agencies, the private sector, and academia gather annually to share the latest trends in the intellectual property field. This conference was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul, Republic of Korea, following Interpol's proposal for joint hosting in 2019. It is also the first in-person conference in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference will continue until the 21st, linked with a training workshop hosted by Interpol the day before.
Internationally, about 450 participants including representatives from related international organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the World Customs Organization (WCO), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Interpol member countries and law enforcement agencies from 70 countries, major online shopping platforms such as Amazon and Alibaba, and industry stakeholders like Louis Vuitton, Porsche, and DC Media will attend. Domestically, in addition to the National Police Agency, related ministries such as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the Korea Customs Service, and the Prosecutor's Office, as well as related organizations including the National Intellectual Property Committee and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, and private companies such as Samsung, Kakao Entertainment, and Coupang will participate in large numbers.
