Myeong Hyun-gwan, Haenam County Governor, Visits the U.S. for Corporate City Investment Agreement

[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Myeong Hyun-gwan, the mayor of Haenam County, announced that he will depart for the United States on the 20th to sign an investment agreement for the Solar Sido Enterprise City.

Mayor Myeong will spend five days from the 20th to the 24th carrying out a schedule that includes the Solar Sido RE100 Global Data Center investment agreement ceremony, visits and consultations with companies related to agricultural and marine product exports, participation in the LA Korean Festival and Jeonnam Tourism Briefing, and the 21st World Korean Business Convention.

On the 21st, an investment agreement ceremony for the Solar Sido RE100 Global Data Center will be held in Kansas City, Missouri. This investment agreement is the first overseas investment attraction of the 8th local government term in Jeollanam-do, which plans to attract 10 global data centers by 2030.

The ceremony will be attended by Kim Young-rok, governor of Jeonnam Province, Myeong Hyun-gwan, mayor of Haenam County, Chae Jeong-seop, CEO of Seonamhaean Development Corporation, Brad Hardin, CEO of TGK and Diode Ventures, and Park Hee-jun, CEO of EIP Asset Management Co., Ltd.

The Green Korea (TGK), a joint venture established by Diode Ventures, a U.S. energy infrastructure business development and investment company, and Korea Energy Innovation Partners (EIP), plans to invest $2 billion (2.6 trillion KRW) to build five 40MW-class data centers within the Solar Sido Enterprise City.

Solar Sido Enterprise City is home to the largest renewable energy industrial complex in Korea, making it an optimal location for companies to realize RE100 (using 100% renewable energy-generated electricity for corporate activities).

Additionally, on the 22nd, he will move to LA to continue activities for exporting Haenam agricultural and marine products. From the 22nd to the 23rd, he will appear directly on a local home shopping channel selling Haenam organic barley rice to promote Haenam rice, visit the Kkotma USA store selling Korean agricultural and marine products, and meet with Misli USA, responsible for exporting Haenam rice to the U.S., to hear the current status and discuss ways to expand exports of Haenam agricultural and marine products.

He will also attend the Korean Festival held in LA, the opening ceremony of the Namdo Market US online shopping mall, the 2022-2023 Jeollanam-do Year of Visit Tourism Briefing, and the 21st World Korean Business Convention chairman’s meeting, where he will meet with Korean-American residents and businesspeople to promote investment attraction and tourism.

Deputy Chairman Seo Hae-geun of the Haenam County Council and officials in charge of investment attraction and agricultural product distribution from the county will accompany him on this U.S. visit, and they will return on the 25th.
