Conductor Chung Myung-whun Collaborates with Gyeonggi Philharmonic for the First Time... Presenting the Essence of Tchaikovsky's Orchestral Music
Performance at Gyeonggi Arts Center on the 9th and Lotte Concert Hall on the 10th
Collaboration with Busoni Competition-winning pianist Park Jae-hong
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra announced on the 19th that it will perform "Gyeonggi Phil Masterpiece Series IV - Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6" conducted by conductor Myung-Whun Chung on November 9th and 10th at the Gyeonggi Arts Center Grand Theater and Seoul Lotte Concert Hall.
This performance marks the first collaboration between the Gyeonggi Philharmonic and conductor Myung-Whun Chung. It is a special concert where audiences can fully experience autumn Russian Romantic music, featuring Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 "Path?tique" is one of Myung-Whun Chung's signature repertoires, praised for his outstanding interpretation. Chung has also released an album with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under the Deutsche Grammophon label. "Path?tique" is a masterpiece of Tchaikovsky's orchestral music, showcasing dramatic tension and delicacy within a solid structure, so much so that Tchaikovsky himself regarded it as his finest work.
Additionally, pianist Jae-Hong Park, the winner of the Busoni International Piano Competition who performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Gyeonggi Philharmonic in 2021, will join as a soloist for Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.
This piece also has a deep connection with Myung-Whun Chung. In 1974, Chung gained international recognition by winning second place at the 5th Tchaikovsky Competition held in Moscow, where he performed Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 as a congratulatory performance for his prize.
Tickets are available for purchase at the Gyeonggi Arts Center, Lotte Concert Hall, and Interpark.
