Why Does Seocho-gu Help Find Owners of Roadkill Animals?
Seocho-gu Launches Pilot Project from This Month for 'Finding Owners of Roadkill Animal Carcasses and Funeral Cost Support'... Seocho-gu Signs Business Agreement with PetDoc Co., Ltd. on 15th for Roadkill Animal Owner Identification and Funeral Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will pilot a service starting this month that hands over the carcasses of pets killed by roadkill to their owners and supports funeral expenses.
The reason the district is promoting this project is to improve the current situation where pets killed by roadkill are disposed of under the Waste Management Act without a separate verification process.
Accordingly, the district has prepared the "Roadkill Animal Carcass Owner Identification and Funeral Expense Support Project" to support humane funeral procedures for pets, activate animal funeral culture, and realize respect for animal life.
To this end, on the 15th, the district signed a business agreement with PetDoc Co., Ltd., a pet life cycle platform, to establish a smooth project implementation and cooperation system.
The main contents include ▲finding owners of roadkill animal carcasses within the region ▲humane funeral processing of animal carcasses ▲supporting funeral expenses for pet owners residing in Seocho-gu.
First, when an animal carcass killed by roadkill is found, the district scans the embedded identification chip with a reader to verify animal registration and find the owner. Then, the district informs the owner about the death report and confirms their intention to receive the carcass. If the owner wishes, the district hands over the carcass and connects them with the funeral service of the contracted company, which provides professional services such as one-on-one consultation with the owner and guidance on funeral procedures. For animals without owners, the district conducts funerals through the contracted company.
Additionally, residents who own pets can receive 30% support on the total funeral cost when using the funeral services of the contracted company through this project. Residents wishing to use the service must bring their resident registration card or certificate of residence and visit the contracted company to apply for the service.
A district official said, "We expect this project to induce the establishment of a desirable pet funeral culture and contribute to the activation of animal registration and pet welfare culture."
In the future, the district plans to connect the "Seoripul Rainbow Gathering" operated by the Seocho Animal Love Center to help residents overcome pet loss syndrome, supporting owners who suffer from grief and pain after losing their pets.
