Assembly Member Baek Hyunjin: "We Will Spare No Support at the National Assembly Level to Help Return to Original Position"
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The Odaesan Joseon Dynasty Annals and Uigwe, which were illegally taken to Japan during the Japanese colonial period, will be exhibited at the National Assembly.
On the 16th, Bae Hyun-jin, a member of the People Power Party, announced that from 2 p.m. on the 19th until the 23rd, an exhibition titled "The Flower of Records Bloomed in Odaesan, Annals and Uigwe" will be held at the 2nd lobby of the National Assembly Members' Office Building. The Joseon Dynasty Annals and Uigwe are UNESCO World Documentary Heritage.
The Joseon Dynasty Annals are records that detail the politics, economy, society, and culture of Joseon and are currently designated and managed as national treasures.
The Joseon Dynasty Uigwe are reports organized in text and illustrations that document the results of important royal events such as weddings, funerals, banquets, and royal processions. They are designated as treasures.
The Odaesan archival copies of the Joseon Dynasty Annals and Uigwe were illegally taken to Japan during the Japanese colonial period but were returned to Korea through the efforts of the government and private sectors.
On February 14th, the National Assembly passed a resolution urging the establishment of the National Joseon Dynasty Annals Exhibition Hall during a plenary session.
Rep. Bae said, "The Joseon Dynasty Annals are the essence of record culture encompassing 472 years of Joseon history and society," adding, "This exhibition was planned to promote the historical significance and value of the Odaesan archival copies of the Joseon Dynasty Annals and Uigwe, which were repatriated from Japan after great efforts."
She continued, "We will spare no support at the National Assembly level so that the Odaesan archival copies of the Joseon Dynasty Annals and Uigwe can return intact to their original place, Woljeongsa Temple, their 'hwanjibonche' (return to original place)."
